SproutSpoken: Scars

We’re back in the balmy courtyard of Sprout Health Foods after (what we’re struggling to believe) is a whole year away! 

And, as we return to our roots, we're hoping the night will make its mark as we come together to explore the theme of scars... with an evening of open-mic spoken word and performance.

The time I crashed my bike into a rosebush in my Granny’s garden...

That altercation with a can of Diet Coke...

The moment I thought using a towel as a skipping rope in the shower was a good idea...

Behind every scar is a story... and this is our invitation! Standby, as we lean into an exploration and sharing of these formative moments, including the ways that they have left their marks on our bodies and beings through our lives. We would particularly encourage would-be open-mic participants to consider those scars we might recall wistfully and with laughter (see above!) but we're also expecting stories rooted in the lasting evidence of more profound or tricky times. 

It's time to show your scars and tell their stories...

SproutSpoken open-mic nights provide the perfect platform for wordsmiths of all shapes and sizes to get their words 'up on their feet' to live, breathe and be shared in the company of a live audience. Along the way, Dicky Souray brings his own brand of warm, welcoming and playful hosting. Expect local voices, along with those who have travelled from further afield. 

Sign up to the open-mic and share your words! Whether it’s your first time or you're a regular performer, there is lots of support and encouragement. If you're taking part, an open-mic slot is free -  you just need to book a participant ticket and include a few details about yourself when you checkout. Open-mic slots are available to book up until 6pm on the day before the event. You may be able to get a slot on the night, but preference will be given to those who have booked one in advance.

As usual, Sprout Health Foods will be providing a great range of hot food and snacks, as well as alcoholic/soft drinks. Come for dinner beforehand and settle yourself in!

SproutSpoken doesn’t usually include trigger warnings for its events but (if you hadn’t already noticed!) the evening is an explicit invitation to explore the literal and figurative damage we have sustained through our lives, which we hope will include humour, silliness and stories of growth and healing. However, we also anticipate some difficult themes and painful exploration, so please be mindful of this when thinking about taking part or attending.
